Contraception Myth #58: Contraception is good for society

Well, if abortion, fatherless children, increased adultery, and euthanasia are good for society then I encourage you to keep on believing that.

In his encyclical Humanae Vitae Pope Paul VI laid out some very prophetic statements about what the inclusion of contraception in our society would bring about. He wrote that contraception is the foundational evil upon which other evils draw their strength.

For example; a society that has accepted contraception has already accepted abortion because this is a logical progression. Contraception prevents a child. This encourages people to see children as a curse, not a blessing. What happens when you don’t want a child, when it’s “moral” to prevent a child, but you get pregnant anyway? Well, it’s not a big leap to see abortion as a perfect Plan B.

In addition, if you accept that the purpose of marriage is fro two people who love each other very much to share finances and get health benefits then homosexual unions make perfect sense. If opposite-sex unions can “morally” sterilize themselves, what separates them from same-sex unions? Accepting artificial contraception fully undermines the foundation of marriage.

If new life in the womb is negotiable, as it must be to accept contraception and abortion, then old life is also negotiable. Why keep our elderly parents, or worse, someone else’s parents alive when we need all the resources we can get for ourselves? Euthanasia is a simple offspring of the Pandora’s Box of contraception.

Humanae Vitae was released in 1968. Roe v. Wade was in 1973. Five years passed and abortion became legal on demand in the United States. In 1968, assisted suicide was never discussed; today several states in America, and several countries around the world, have opened the doors to euthanasia. The same can be said of homosexual “marriage”.

Pope Paul VI was either one lucky guesser or he was right.

Catholic teaching on birth control is wise, even if from a health standpoint. The Plan B Birth control is so potent, it poses an incredible health risk to women. Read about this topic, which has attracted 3,000 visits, at WomanCare Services.
