Obama says: Don’t let abortion coverage “distract” you

President Obama had an interview with CBS anchor Katie Couric a few nights ago and she asked about his thoughts on including tax-payer-funded abortion coverage.

"What I think is important, at this stage, is not trying to micromanage what benefits are covered. Because I think we're still trying to get a framework. And my main focus is making sure that people have the options of high quality care at the lowest possible price." Obama responded.

With all due respect, Mr. President, a simple yes or no would do just fine. I personally think that paying for abortion with my taxes is very distracting.

Many pro-life leaders are saying that the abortion clauses in the current healthcare bill are essentially FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act) by Stealth that will nullify state’s restrictions on abortion practices.

We strongly encourage all citizens who are distracted by the idea that their tax dollars will be used to fund abortions should call their state’s congressmen (find yours at http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/) and let them know that you do NOT want them to vote for a healthcare package without explicitly stating that abortion will not be covered.

Also, a webcast is scheduled for TONIGHT at 8:00 central time that will feature many pro-life leaders discussing the dangers of this legislation. Please attend if you’re able.
