You can’t call yourself Catholic and support contraception –Milwaukee Archbishop

Archbishop Jerome Listecki of Milwaukee Wisconsin has responded to the organization Young Catholics for Choice (YCFC). YCFC is a spinoff of Catholics for Choice, a group of “Catholics” that has been denounced by the Vatican for their radical support of contraception and abortion. Both groups proclaim that Catholics can use contraception and procure abortions as long as their conscience allows them to do so.

They also claim that doing these things makes a person “no less Catholic”. Archbishop Listecki, however, disagrees.

"While people can call themselves whatever they want, it is my duty as a bishop to state clearly and unequivocally that by professing and disseminating views in grave contradiction to Catholic teaching, members of organizations like 'Young Catholics for Choice' in fact disown their Catholic heritage, tragically distancing themselves from that communion with the Church to which they are called”

Why do people think that they can belong to an organization, ignore the teachings of that organization, and be full members of that organization?
