Unborn child abuse?

There’s a case in Kentucky right now about the so-called “crack mom” who faces up to ten years in prison for endangering the life of her child. The unusual thing about this case is the woman used cocaine while pregnant.

The “crack mom’s” lawyer summed up the legal hypocrisy:

“I don’t see how it’s OK to have an abortion, but it’s not OK to do something which would hurt the fetus on the part of the mother…I don’t see how one could make the argument that it’s OK to kill a person, but it’s not OK to hurt a person if you consider a fetus to be a person, which the law does not.”

He’s got a valid point; though I don’t think the solution is to make abusing a child in the womb socially acceptable. We live in a society that silently accepts the killing of children in the womb but reacts with anger if one of those children is put in danger or abused.

If the irony wasn’t so sad it would be hilarious.

Read a local article about the story.
