Yet another reason Catholics believe we’re in communion with the saints... they can hear our prayers.

None of us know how prayer “works” exactly but all Christians believe it does work. We all believe God can knows our words, thoughts, and even the stirrings of our hearts. Can those in heaven do the same? If God opts to allow them to then, why not?

Consider St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians where he says the apostles are made a “spectacle” to the angels (4:9) and that in heaven we’ll be given knowledge (13:4). How about Jesus’ words that there’s rejoicing in heaven at the repentance of a sinner (Lk 15:10). Knowing a sinner has repented requires knowing the deepest moving of the sinner’s heart; far beyond simply hearing a prayer.

That scripture tells us the saints in heaven are still aware of us here on earth is yet another reason Catholics believe they can hear our prayers.
